I have 2 months to prepare for an entrance exam to take up Law and also I have to take up Civil Service Exam next year and I am also contemplating to take up the Foreign Service Officer Exam too and maybe watch the last 2 seasons of The Good Wife or West Wing for review, heehee… and reads lots of books. 2012 maybe the year I go back to school again…. But yeah I really have to woman up, set my shizz straight and look at my life and my choices.
It was great, it was fascinating! It was modernizingly mesmerizing! Normally I am one who loathed 3D movies, never was a big fan of them. So, when I heard my ofcmate who watched before me said they used a big LED screen as a backdrop, I said, eh, how’d that work? And I was also looking forward to watch Joanna Ampil as Maria, not because I didn’t like Cris Villonco but I’m just a fan of Joanna like that, so.. Anyway. Theater for me was really always a mindfacking experience, I remember watching Ms Saigon when I was younger and asking myself how in the heck were they able to put a helicopter inside the theater and where was the orchestra?! LOL. So what the Sound of Music Manila did was kind of “revolutionized” the theatricality of “theater” using a LED screen for digital backdrops, the set is moving (the usual stuff on concerts where a performer comes out from under the stage and all) and they have 2 monitors on the sides which made me think; do they already have monitors + cameras at Brodway and in West End?! So its like a Musical Concert then. But yes. Its not the “usual”, musical theater they have made with the Newport Performing Arts Theater there @ Resorts World Manila.
As for the cast, I think I fell in love with Cris Villonco, she was adorable and great! I think she channeled Julie Andrews performance in the movie (but of course, heehee!) like Julie’s fun, charming but can be misinterpreted as childish Maria, I think Cris did her job just brilliantly. And of course Audie Gemora was awesome, as always. And who stood out the most for me? Pinky Amador as Baroness Elsa Schraeder. And the Von Trapp kids are really good too. And My sis was like, that’s not what was in the movies and my father also asked why they didn’t sing (Maria and the Von Trapp kids) at the mountains and I lawled and said of course the movie is different from the “original musical” itself. And after the show ended sis wanted to take a pic with one of the cute receptionists in Austrian costume and after I asked him if there was a chance the cast could come out (coz sometimes I can be such a fangurl, I just wanted to take a pic with Cris hurhur) and he said the cast mostly come out at 2nd flr Starbucks, so after hanging out and taking pics at the lobby we went to 2nd floor and I said if mother can buy coffee but she left her sticker thingy to avail planner at home urgh so it would be a waste to buy so I didn’t get to be a stalker heehee. In conclusion, for me, having to watch SOM in “real life” as in a live theater was a childhood dream come true, and it was a great experience for me. Props to the awesome cast, and production people and all. Great show.
